*BackgroundBackground. We are a family-owned nursery specializing in the growing and selling of hybrid daylilies. All of our plants are grown in outdoor beds where they experience Mother Nature at her best and her worst. Our Gardens are in Zone 5. We ship barefoot daylilies May through September or you can arrange to pick up your plants (See Ordering and Shipping). We have been growing daylillies a long time--since 1978, in fact. We opened the nursery in 1996.
Sam Hill Gardens is a licensed nursery, meaning we must meet standards imposed by the Nebraska Department of Agriculture who inspect our Gardens annually. To date, we have always successfully passed. So where in the Sam Hill are we? (map) Our address is 9405 NW 112th Street Malcolm, Nebraska but we're not in Malcolm, NE. We're 1/2 miles southwest of the village and about half way between Lincoln, NE and Seward, NE north of U.S. Highway 34 (also called Alvo Road). If you are coming from the Lincoln or Seward areas, take U.S. highway 34 and turn north onto Northwest 112th Street. Go about 1 1/8 miles. Look for our sign on the west side of the road. If you're coming fromt he south through Emerald, NE at the flashing light, head north. Stay on the paved road. At the first stop sign, you are at Highway 34. Continue straight and watch for the sign on the west side of the road. If you come from the north, go around Branched Oak Lake and follow NW 112th Street south. Take the little jog to the right and watch for our sign on the west side of the road.
The nursery is open from May through August. You can count on someone being here Fridays 10 am to 4 pm. We are usually here most mornings but to avoid disappointment, it is best to call ahead on any other days. We will try to accommodate your schedule. Visitors are always welcome when we are here and we love tour groups. The best time to visit is when the daylilies are blooming which starts late May and continues through August. Peak bloom is early July through mid July. You can check the bloom status or call for current information. Questions or comments? Contact us: By phone: 402-796-2191 A NOTE RE: EMAILS We would like to thank the Visual Publications Department of Southeast Community College, Lincoln, NE for being our webmaster who with the approval and support of Mike Keating, Director of Visual Publications, have designed and maintained the pages on our site. Specifically we recognized Phillip Meduna, Jessica Johnson, and Mike Keating. Phillip, a Visual Publications major who graduated in March, 2004 created our initial design and implemeted the catalog. As part of his final quarter at SCC, Phillip, under the supervision of Mike, worked diligently learning techniques and procedures not taught in his classes and combined that new knowledge with his classroom knowledge to create a web design for us. Jessica, a Visual Publications major, worked during the fall quarter 2006 to revamp the format and enhance the pages so our website sent out a clearer message of our mission. Mike Keating's willingness and enthusiasm to involve his department in our project, along with his assistance, ideas, and support, have been outstanding. Over the years, other individuals have assisted us in landscaping and cultivating our online gardens. We extend thanks to them as well: Aaron Weaver, Austin Weaver, Eric Underwood, and Fred Freytag. Have a great daylily day
